Re: Salome

Salome has officially become my favorite of the collection. That chocolate/woody vetiver and the musky vanilla-myrrh drydown are completely intoxicating with my skin chemistry.

Re: Lady and a Baby Unicorn

wet: Hmmm, well, this first blast of vanilla is the Possets vanilla that my skin chemistry doesn't like - the one that ruined Ponder and Madame X and several other blends for me. It goes oddly buttery and plastic-y on me, like a scented doll. It's almost grainy-smelling, like it's rough instead of s...

Re: News In 2016

Oh - does this mean we can request specific samples with our orders? I didn't know we could do that!! (Sorry - I do tend to be the "last bastion of cluelessness" sometimes! I wouldn't even be surprised if it's written somewhere, or if I knew at one point but forgot :s: ) So do let me know if that i...

Re: Empress Cixi

wet: a sort of fruity incense drying: I wasn't entirely sure what dragonsblood smells like. This is a fruity, semi-sweet incense smell. It borders on shrill or soapy for me. full drydown: I was hoping for more of a richer, fuller smell than this. This is pretty in a almost fruity, almost sharp yet i...

Re: Mata Hari

I gave this another try after gypsyjolie's marvelous review...but I came up short again. I am getting a patchouli that borders on leathery (and though I love both patchouli and true leather, it's just meh here), slight amberish-powder and that nutty vetiver again. To me it smells like dirty incense...

Re: Summer (Mucha)

I finally got to try this since it made Permanent status. I can see why! wet: carnation! drying: spicy carnations, bright ginger, and something woody. full drydown: Oh, this is so happy. Golden. The carnation and ginger are so lively and lively together. The sandalwood doesn't get too powdery or dus...

Re: Mata Hari

So based on the notes, I thought this would be a heavy, incensy, head shop type of perfume. I happen to love those kinds of perfumes. But no, this is pure genius. I don't know how Fabienne took such rich ingredients and actually made them fresh, light, and airy. Yes, airy. This is a clean and fresh...

Re: Review Requests and Random Stuff

Yeah, it's funny how the ones that I thought I'd love were good (Judith and Jeanne duVal), but were not the standouts of my samples. The wildcards I tried were the big winners - even Salome, which has myrrh, which is a death note usually, and Diane de Poitiers, despite lemon never having worked on m...

Re: Jeanne DuVal Mistress of Charles Baudelaire

wet: coffee and amber? drying: This is a thick and rich and "chewy" resin blend. The musk, patchouli (lovely aged smooth patch) and ambers are like a molasses cookie of scent. full drydown: Thick, dark, full resins. This is sweet-ish and sticky, with that hint of vanilla and laudanum lending a caram...
