Re: Gelato: Profound Lavender Chocolate

I got this because I love Id, except I sometimes wish it had a bit more oomph. Unfortunately, something in Profound Lavender goes bad on my skin. It developed an animalic funk, like stinky guy sweat, and it had enough throw that I could pick it up even just swinging my arms while walking.

Re: Hortus (Bosschaert the Elder)

Round and lush and heartbreakingly pretty! Linden is a newish note to my nose, but the neroli is definitely a player--it seems to ground it and keep it from smelling too foofy or soapy. I can imagine this on a young woman who is classy, but also unabashedly femme . Think Carey Mulligan, or Downton A...

Re: Earth Touch - Summer 2011

I used to like sandalwood as a kid, but lately it has all gone wrong on me. It tends to develop this cloying sweetness that I can't abide. Fabienne's resinous, "exotic" scents are also hinky on my skin but I never give up on trying to find one that works. Surprise, surprise! Earth Touch do...

Re: Envious Pink

Ooh! This smells like Pixy Stix! Like a blast of sweet-sour effervescent cherry limeade. I wonder if the nettle is what gives it that granular "fizzy" quality? And it does interesting things as it dries down slowly into luscious marshmallow. I can't believe I'm saying these things over a s...

Re: A Haiku-Soseki

I'm doing something unprecedented with my decants this go-round, and trying them on even if they don't smell appealing in the bottle. This one smelled like greenery in the vial (sharp and perfumey, not usually my thing), but on the skin, it went soft and powdery (and extremely old-fashioned) really q...

Re: Summer Retour -- Random Thoughts and Review Requests

Oh Marisaviola, you just made me want Flying Horse and Madame X Squared. The latter I sidestepped because I didn't like the other Madame X perfumes, but ginger is one of my favorite notes. Alas, they are both sold out in Ajevie's pre-order! Maybe she will re-order at some point...

Re: Summer Retour -- Random Thoughts and Review Requests

I got overexcited yesterday and ordered these decants: 14 Carnations A Haiku Soseki Earth Touch Etna (got this one because of Funkmoppet's comment that "the whole thing evokes the forest at the base of the mountain" Evil Eye Garcia Lorca Ginger Lime Granita (ginger, lime, mint, three of my...

Re: Spring Retour

Finances are tight so my only bottle purchase was 3333 Reservoir Rd., and I feel it's the right one because I crave that specific scent a lot, now. I loved The Queen's Strawberries, but I ended up realizing I like Leda and the Swan just a smidge better, and that's enough strawberry for me. I am sure...

Re: The "What are you wearing today and general impressions of it" thread :)

Romping Skyclad went wird on you? What a pity? Maybe chemistry and not your nose? I think it's my brain . I have strong scent-association memory, and generally, if a perfume reminds me of something ordinary, or is attached to another person/period of time, I tend to go off of it. I'm currently test...

Re: Georgetown (chypre)

I got a decant of this from Ajevie, and whoo, that's a lot of leather. It hurts my nose. I am scared...should I try it on? Will it change if I do?
