Wallis Warfield Simpson
She was the one person everyone wished to talk about during WWII. Scandalous, vilified, living in the rarified bubble of the Prince of Wales circle. She was the twice divorced woman who vamped her way into the Prince's heart. She was not beautiful but she had impeccable taste. Of course she was despised by the royal family, who would allow no divorce at all among them at the time but the Prince of Wales was so crazy for her that when it came to choosing the throne or the divorcee, he chose the latter abdicated and went into exile in Paris. Alas, it was said that the relationship cooled off and got bitchy after the marriage but the pretenses remained firmly in place. Mrs. Simpson remained a fashion icon and was the author of the famous saying,"You can never be too thin or too rich."
The perfume is a paean to modern tastes and classic style. A rich carpet of three sandalwoods (a golden, a smoky, and a woody) gang up on a sparkle of pink grapefruit, all this is ringed around with a dry and delightful amber to set it off. A pinch of Sicilian myrtle to give it a bit of life (and remind us that they did indeed get married in the end...as myrtle is a marital ingredient).
This is a supremely sexy fragrance, but done in a way that the lady in question is a genius. Fruity, citrus, resinous, woody. Amazing.

Of the 5 perfumes I selected, this is the standout winner for me. It starts with a bright grapefruit entrance and just as I am about to sulk about this pretty citrus stepping back, in comes my beloved sandalwood., the most luscious, creamy sandal. There are 3 sandals in Min Min, too, but this trio has a more traditional vibe to me. I am in sandalwood heaven. Final drydown is an intoxicating oriental blend with a whisper of floral. This is so flipping amazing and it is fresh off the boat, so imagine in a few weeks! This will get one of my votes for this collection. It might even shimmy up to mytop 10 Possets where the competition is quite fierce!

Oh I put this one on my "maybe no" list due to grapefruit and floral. But I was tempted because of the sandalwoods, I ADORE sandalwood. Your review is changing my mind.
Re: Wallis Warfield Simpson
I didn't order this one either, because I had Girl in White and didn't think I needed another grapefruit, so I'm hoping it makes permanents!

Atropos and Apollonia, this blend definitely more a sandalwood perfume with the grapefruit introducing the woody lushness with a light flurish. I have Diamond and a Cambienne which features the grapefruit and this is not one of those perfumes, at least with my chemistry.
Re: Wallis Warfield Simpson
Is the Cambienne you have Eastern Star? I have that one on the way to me now which has sandalwood / grapefruit. Would be very interested to compare them both.

No, Apollonia, I was referring to White Nights which is not woody at all.Apollonia wrote:Is the Cambienne you have Eastern Star? I have that one on the way to me now which has sandalwood / grapefruit. Would be very interested to compare them both.

Oh now I wish I'd ordered a sample of it with Ajeve's circle.

Me too! Though I think 10 samples is most definitely enough...Atropos wrote:Minh Scent wrote:Atropos and Apollonia, this blend definitely more a sandalwood perfume with the grapefruit introducing the woody lushness with a light flurish.
