The Scent of Night

Hyssop, violet leaf, spikenard, red cedar, dark brown musk, and fallen leaves. Night night night in a bottle. Beautiful, mystical, glorious, dry, musky, strong, sexy, heady, narcotic, unforgettable.

This is good. REALLY good. I get the violet leaf and maybe a little hyssop off the bat... I used to have hyssop in my garden but this is better. Also the 'nard for some herbal and cedar for woodiness... and the fall leaves. This so evokes a fall evening. Autumn night. Sexy. This one wasn't even on my radar for my first Halloween order. I'm so glad I went and read through things again and went with this to travel with the Cambiennes.
It's so good, and different enough from my 100+ other Possets. Really.

Pretty, pretty, pretty! Cedar is the most prominent note (I don't know violet leaf, spikenard or hyssop, so I'm not sure if I'm smelling them) and it's what I always want to smell when I try a woody perfume. Unfortunately, many perfumes that classify themselves as woody tend to be highly astringent and sharp. This is much softer and conveys that sense of spooky, enveloping darkness you might get in a forest at night. Warm, maybe a touch damp. There is a slight sweetness that is almost--almost--like coconut to me, but coconut's a bad note for me, and this is not. Yes, I like this a lot.

This is a very green scent, like fresh green leaves, but with a base of something earthy at the base. I get the cedar, the brown musk, and something almost camphoric - is that spikenard? Whatever it is, I love it. There's almost a leathery quality here. On the whole it's so intriguing that I keep compulsively sniffing my wrist.I think this one is a real indication of Fabienne's skill and I'm quite sad it didn't make the permanents.

I had to get this, being the collection' signature scent, with irresistible notes. It is beautiful, starting with violet leaf and green herbal caress that snuggles into the cedar and musk. I catch the leaf note and as Caith said, a hint of camphor, very light. The violet leaf picks up again after the wood settles. I love this.

ETA- The cedar in this is a divine, true wood note. One of the prettiest cedars I ever met!

Is it too soon to be revisiting Halloween scents? No! What the hell. Halloween in August, because it's kind of warm out there!
Anyway, this is aging so nicely!
In the bottle I'm still mostly getting the violet leaf and spikenard. I get a split second of a play dough smell upon application? Odd. After having this on for a while today there was (and to some extent still remains) this lovely sort of camphor-leather thing. ("Thing" is inadequate but I'm trying here!) I was really digging that! I assume the camphor is from the hyssop. Until Possets I never thought camphor was a note I'd like in a perfume! As for the leather... what? In Evita Peron, there is a leather that makes you think of violets. Has Fabienne done some sort of crazy reverse alchemy here?
I will never understand how certain combos of scents make me think of something else entirely.
I dabbed this on this morning and reapplied sometime around noon. It's 7:30pm here and I can still smell it. It's softer now (go figure) but still just so... attractive!
